Victim Assistance Program is a government program that provides information and aid to persons who have suffered direct physical, emotional, or pecuniary harm as a result of the commission of a crime.

All 50 states have government-funded entities that provide services to Victims of Crime. In addition, the JusticeDepartment's Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), oversees many federal programs that benefit crime victims. These programs provide information to victims about their rights as well as emotional and financial support.

The Victim Assistance Program empowers their community to restore lives impacted by crisis, violence, and tragedy.  They help over 6,000 individuals each year through crisis intervention, advocacy, and education to both victims and to those in the professional community who assist them.

Victim Assistance helps all victims impacted by crisis, violence, and tragedy regardless of age, sex, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, disability or ability to speak English.

Their staff, interns, and volunteers share the responsibility of providing victims with support through the 24-hour hotline & website chat. Because their agency serves victims of all crime types, those answering the hotline are trained to offer compassionate and nonjudgmental crisis intervention, emotional support, safety plans, information on victims’ legal rights, community referrals as well as education on common reactions crime victims may encounter.
